We rolled into Meadowbrook Campground on a beautiful weekend in mid-July. We were excited to check this place out as it came was highly recommended by the couple of veteran campers that we purchased our 2012 Wildwood from.
We intended to celebrate our son’s third birthday here with our families, so we booked four adjacent campsites online. When we arrived at the campground for check-in, we were surprised to find out that the sites we chose online weren’t “locked in” and that they’d taken the liberty of spreading our reservations around the campground. Noting that we’d had three other families camping with us for the weekend and we’d like to be together, the staff moved our reservations back to the sites we’d originally booked. We still don’t really understand why, if the sites weren’t occupied, our reserved sites were moved, but staff didn’t hesitate to move us back and it all ended out as planned.
Our particular site was suitable for up to a 32′ camper. We perfer wooded sites, so when we rolled up to the site, Greg was a little worried about maneuvering between a few large trees. Luckily he nailed it on the first try. Kim, on the other hand, needs a class in RV traffic control.
The site itself was very large, clean, shaded and was located at the end of a row, so had plenty of privacy, which is what we like. The only downside to the site was the tree roots throughout that made it rutty and a bit tricky to navigate without tripping or stubbing a toe. Our families’ adjacent sites were all of similar size and quality and because we had no sites immediately across from us or behind us, it kind of felt we had our own private section of the campground.
Meadowbrook has a couple of things to offer that a lot of campgrounds don’t. The first being campsite food delivery! Their snack shack holds a nightly lobster bake and maintains a full menu for pick up or delivery right to your campsite! We ordered breakfast pizza the morning our families’ were packing up to leave. Kim gave it an 8/10. Would eat again.
Directly behind our row of sites was a short path that lead to a scenic overlook positioned perfectly to view some really breaktaking sunsets over a vast forest line. Again, not a feature that a lot of campsites have to offer.
Kim and her mother took Owen down to the pool a time or two and they enjoyed it. It was well maintained, clean and although it isn’t heated, it sits in direct sunlight all day, so the water temperature was comfortable for the time of year. The playground, however left much to be desired. The equipment is old and run down and quite frankly made Kim a little nervous. They do have a giant aderondak chair right near the playground that Owen loved and makes for a great photo op.
On day two of our trip, we learned that our 32 gallon gray water tank is a lot smaller than we thought. The campground staff offered us their tote for waste water free of charge, which allowed us to empty our tank without having to unhook to use the dump station. They didn’t have to do it, but offered without hesitation.
Overall, we enjoyed our experience here. The campground staff is friendly and accommodating, the sites are of decent size and well-maintained, and it offers a few perks that aren’t generally offered at a campground. We definitely plan to visit Meadowbrook again (and this time we’ll remember to lock in our online reservation).
